We are constantly developing facilities at Monneley Farm and have been running educational trips around the farm since March 2010.
90 acres of the farm is in a Countryside Stewardship Scheme, this aim of this is to protect and improve the countryside. Educational Access is part of this scheme and allows us to invite groups of the public to visit the farm and learn about the countryside. We welcome any group whether it is a school party studying farming as part of the National Curriculum or any group who want to learn about food production, farming, wildlife conservation, landscape and historical features.
Below are just a few of the educational offerings we have here at Monneley Farm:
The farm is situated in a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to the species of plants that are growing in this area.
There is a 12th century farmhouse on the farm, and the nearby Barthomley village is a 16th Century village.
There is a permissive footpath across the land which links the Cheshire Way to Barthomley walk.
In the skies around the farm you will find a range of birds flying from buzzards, lapwings, herons and even woodpeckers. Also over the land frequently seen are hares, foxes and partridge.
We have in the hedgerows and woodland edges Tree sparrows, a species in this country whose future needs securing, and we are one of the largest habitats in the UK for tree sparrows.
There is tremendous soil diveristy visible on the farm, including sand, clay, peat, loam to Grade 2 silt.
